About The Maidhoff & Westphal Family
Please sign in to see more.
This website is dedicated to all members of The Maidhoff and Westphal Families. These families came to America from Germany. A big part of my research is finding out exactly where in Germany they came.
My Maternal Great-Grand Father was George E. Maidhoff. He was married to Caroline Utermarck. My Paternal Great Grandfather was Hans Joseph Westphal. He was married to Ida Bohent. Both families resided in NYC. It's still not certain when these families came to America.
My Grandmother, Anna Maidhoff Westphal has been an angel to me. She has given me a wealth of information, and without her wisdom and knowledge, this website would not have been possible. Thank you, Grandma, for all you have done for me so far. I appreciate it from the bottom of my heart. As I learn more about this wonderful, large family, I will be making updates regularly. If any of you have any additions to make, please let me know. Also, if there are any discrepancies, please let me know that also. I hope you all enjoy this website, as much as I have enjoyed keeping it up. Please sign the guestbook. I would be great to hear from you all !! With identity theft running rampant in this country, I want to assure you that this is a secure website. The only access is through a password system, (as you found out when you logged in). I have hidden the birth month and day for everyone living. If you would like me to just include your first Initial instead of your name, please let me know, and I will be more than happy to do that. If you have any other questions which I did not address, please email me and I will do my best to answer them.

Just a tidbit of information:
'The name Westphal is traced to the province of Westphalia which is bordered by the Ruhr and the west river. Westphalia was part of an ancient Saxony until 1180AD and is now the contemporary state of Nordrhein-Westfalen. Despites its union with saxony after which it was divided into speperate religious and political regions of authority.During the reformation most of westphalia remained catholic, while Saxony became the backbone of early development in Europe. The oldest branch of the family can be traced to the ducal house von Billung, which dates back to 960. You might find some information if you look under Duesseldorf which is at present the capital of Nordrhein-Westfalen. Dortmund is westphalias largest city.'

Getting Around There are several ways to browse the family tree. The Tree View graphically shows the relationship of selected person to their kin. The Family View shows the person you have selected in the center, with his/her photo on the left and notes on the right. Above are the father and mother and below are the children. The Ancestor Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph above and children below. On the right are the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. The Descendant Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph and parents below. On the right are the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Do you know who your second cousins are? Try the Kinship Relationships Tool. Your site can generate various Reports for each name in your family tree. You can select a name from the list on the top-right menu bar.
In addition to the charts and reports you have Photo Albums, the Events list and the Relationships tool. Family photographs are organized in the Photo Index. Each Album's photographs are accompanied by a caption. To enlarge a photograph just click on it. Keep up with the family birthdays and anniversaries in the Events list. Birthdays and Anniversaries of living persons are listed by month. Want to know how you are related to anybody ? Check out the Relationships tool. |
